The Kyiv Institute of Water Transport after Hetman Petro Konashevych-Sahaidachnyi was found in 1912.
The integrated step-by-step system of training specialists from water transport has developed during the formation of the Academy.
The Academy cooperates with institutes and universities of water transport profile in foreign countries and is a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities. The Academy supports and consolidates the authority of national higher education.
In September 2011, the Academy obtained a license from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the training and advanced training of foreign citizens, for all directions accredited by the Academy.
The training of shipping specialists at the Academy is constantly monitored by central executive authorities of safety in maritime and river transport, as well as international organizations such as the European Commission (EU) and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).
